Research Study Investigating Interventions for Public Speaking Anxiety

Researchers at the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders at Boston University are conducting a research study to evaluate the potential effects of 4 single doses of yohimbine hydrochloride on the effectiveness of a particular form of psychotherapy (cognitive-behavioral therapy). The investigational medication is not designed to reduce anxiety symptoms on its own, but may improve the effectiveness of this type of therapy.

Participation involves…
*Completing a screening assessment prior to starting the study and completing some of these assessments throughout the study
*Attending 5 sessions of cognitive-behavior therapy
*Taking the investigational medication (or placebo) before four of these therapy sessions
*Returning to the center for two follow-up sessions to assess anxiety symptoms

Individuals who are eligible for the research study will receive cognitive behavioral therapy provided at no charge as part of study participation. Some medications are permissible in the research study.

Healthy adults ages 18-65 who suffer from anxiety (especially fears of speaking in public) are urged to contact our research laboratory.
